Village, Tree, Heritage

This is a research project established in 2022 with the support of the Lord Wilson Heritage Trust. Led by Ms. Vincci Mak, Senior Lecturer at HKU Division of Landscape Architecture, the project aims to investigate the trends, patterns, relationships and interconnection between old trees and rural cultures in a village context, and how different landscapes foster different village cultures.

After two years of research, the team has interviewed different villagers to learn more about the villages' histories, cultural significances of the trees, traditional rural cultures passed down through generations, and how these are related to villagers' everyday life. We hope to share the research findings with the public through this website.

68 village trees have been recorded.
